The Singularity is often seen as the end of human civilization and the birth of a new civilization. In his essay, Vinge asks why the human era should end, and argues that humans will be processed during the Singularity in a form of higher intelligence. After the creation of a superhuman intelligence, according to Vinge, people will, by comparison, a lower form of life.
